Delegation from Australian High Commission met FBCCI President

April 22, 2024: A delegation from the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on FBCCI President Mr. Mahbubul Alam on April 22, 2024 at the FBCCI Office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The delegation was led by the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner (South Asia) of Australian High Commission in Bangladesh Ms. Catherine Gallagher.

During the call, FBCCI President Mr. Mahbubul Alam emphasized the importance of trade between Bangladesh and Australia. Highlighting the lucrative facilities provided by the Government of Bangladesh for the Foreign Investors, FBCCI President invited the Australian investors to invest in Bangladesh. The FBCCI President called on the Australian businessmen to set up industry and invest in the Special Economic Zones of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has good trade relations with many countries including Canada, European Union, but there is a huge trade deficit with Australia, he added. FBCCI is eager to host and facilitate Australian businesses in Bangladesh and Will provide all kinds of support to the Australian investors, said Mr. Mahbubul Alam.

Meanwhile, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner (South Asia) of the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh Ms. Catherine Gallagher stressed the importance of Bangladesh-Australia trade relations.

Appreciating the development and economic growth of Bangladesh, she said that Bangladesh has made excellent progress in other fields including GDP. Businessmen's interaction is very important to enhance the trade relations between the two countries, she added.

Small business delegations may come to Bangladesh from Australia aiming for sectoral development of the two countries, she added. There has been good work between the two countries in the agriculture and education sectors, she mentioned.

The meeting also discussed organizing seminars soon to increase trade and investment relations between Australia and Bangladesh.

FBCCI Senior Vice President Mr. Md. Amin Helaly, Vice President Mr. Md. Khairul Huda Chopol, Mr. Mohammed Anwar Sadat Sarker, Mr. Md. Munir Hossain, Secretary General Mr. Md. Alamgir and others were present at the meeting. The Australian delegation included Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Clinton Pobke, Trade Commissioner Mr. John Southwell, Mr. Denise Eaton, Second Secretary Mr. Joshua Gacutan and Senior Director Mr. Minhaz Chowdhury.
